CONFERENCE RESULT

"International Valorisation Conference: "Key Methodology to Successful Competence Based Learning" took place in Istanbul, TURKEY on 16-18 October 2014.

The International Conference was organised in the frames of an international project KEYS, implemented with the support from EC through LLP (539401-LLP-1-2013-1-BG-COMENIUS-CAM). The KEYS project aims valorisation and dissemination of outcomes of successful projects and initiatives addressing acquisition of key competences.

The two-day Conference was held in two Istanbul locations: Atasehir Doga Campus in the Asian side of Istanbul and santralistanbul - Bilgi University located at the Golden Horn in the European side of Istanbul.

The aim of the conference was to promote projects, policy or practices, related to development of key competences for lifelong learning.

In two days, approximately 200 (secondary and higher education, regional and national authority) as teachers, head teachers, inspectors, initial and in-service teacher educators, academic staff, students participated in the conference.

The pre-conference agenda on 16th October 2014 provided an option for a school observation visit at Acibadem Pearson Doga School Campus and a cultural trip to Istanbul historical and cultural sites. On the first day of the conferences, 17 October 2014, different projects were presented and key note speakers gave speeches on key competences. Mr. Hans van der Loo highlighted the importance of teachers with his presentation titled "Teachers have a hand in the future". Other key note speakers, Prof. SeonKwan Han & MiYoung Ryu, Gyeong in National University of Education South Korea touched upon Smart Education with their presentation "Smart Education Project for 21 Century Students in South Korea."

Additionally, KEYS Project was introduced to participants by project coordinator Reni Dimova. A presentation titled "Terminology of the competence driven teaching and learning - interactive activity" was held by Renilde Knevels.

On the second day of the conferences, Mr. Dr. Jaap Van Lakerveld from University of Leiden, Netherlands, was highlighted the importance of the competence oriented learning with his presentation titled "Competence oriented learning and teaching".

Other key note speakers Ciprian Fartusnic & Ligia Sarivan Institute for Educational Sciences - Romania, introduced their presentation titled "Romanian National Education and the competence-based learning" Additionally, Jet-Net - Youth & Technology Network - a good practice example from Netherlands which is about the links between the business and the schools for raising the popularity of the technologies and opening the schools to the world of business was introduced to participants by Hans van der Loo & Beatrice Boots from Netherlands.

Both afternoons of the conference continued with workshops dedicated to different themes and topics as addressing citizenship education and developing the sense of entrepreneurship of learners in key competences. Number of case studies and research results were presented by the project implementer teachers and partners. 21st century competences were introduced to participants at the concurrent workshops.
